Convert WebM to MP4: how it works
Why convert
WebM is common for screen recordings and downloads from the web, but iPhone and many editors do not play it. MP4 with H.264 video and AAC sound plays almost anywhere.
How to convert
Drop the WebM file above. It is converted to an MP4 that plays on iPhone, with the moov atom at the front so it starts quickly. Press save when it is done.
Your video stays with you
The conversion uses your browser's own video support, and a small converter for formats it cannot read. Neither uploads anything.
Why WebM struggles on Apple devices
WebM usually carries VP9 or VP8 video with Opus sound. Chrome and Firefox play them, but Safari's support has been partial and depends on the version, and iOS apps, Messages and editors such as iMovie often refuse the file. MP4 with H.264 and AAC is the format every Apple device plays.
Unlike MKV or MOV, a WebM is almost never copied across: VP9 cannot go into an iPhone-safe MP4 as it is, so the video is encoded again to H.264, using your browser's own encoder. The sound is converted from Opus to AAC the same way.

What leaves your device
No video is uploaded. Everything runs in your browser; a small converter (about 3 MB) is downloaded once, and only for a format the browser cannot read. What is recorded.

Questions
Asked often
Where does a screen recording from the browser go?
Nowhere. WebM files from a browser recorder are converted on your device and never uploaded.
Will the quality change?
The video is re-encoded to H.264 at high quality, so any change is very small.
Does the sound carry over?
Yes. It is converted to AAC.
Will Messages, Photos and iMovie open the MP4?
Yes. H.264 video with AAC sound in an MP4 is what they all play.
Can I convert several at once?
Yes. Drop them together and they are done one after another.
Why does it take longer than MOV to MP4?
A MOV is usually just repackaged. A WebM has to be encoded again, so the time follows the length and size of the video.
