Convert HEIC to JPG: how it works
Why iPhone photos won't open
Since iOS 11 an iPhone saves photos as HEIC (also called HEIF) by default. The format is efficient, usually about half the size of a JPG at the same quality, but Windows, many websites, older apps and most email and upload forms can't open it. A photo that looks fine on the phone arrives as an unreadable file.
Converting to JPG fixes that. JPG opens on every device and every site, so it is the safe choice for sharing, printing and uploading.
How to convert HEIC to JPG
Drop one photo or a whole folder onto the page. The output is already set to JPG at quality 90, a good balance between size and sharpness. Press Convert all, then save the files one by one or download them together. Use the quality slider if you need smaller files, and the scale slider to shrink the pixel size too.
The conversion runs in your browser, in Chrome, Edge and Firefox as well as Safari, so you do not need a Mac or an app.
Your photos stay private
Photos are decoded and re-encoded on your device. They are never uploaded to a server, which matters for personal pictures. Colour, orientation and resolution are kept, and you can crop or rotate any photo before saving.

What you can do with your images

Convert HEIC photos to JPEG or PNG
iPhones save photos as HEIC, which Windows, many websites and older apps can't open. Convert them to JPEG for sharing, or PNG when you need lossless quality. It works in Chrome, Edge and Firefox as well as Safari.
In your browser -
02
Make images smaller
Scale images down from 1% to 100% and set the quality for JPEG, WebP, AVIF and PDF. WebP and AVIF are usually far smaller than JPEG at the same quality. Each image shows its size before and after, like

Compress PNGs without losing anything
The PNG compression slider trades speed for size. The result is always pixel-for-pixel identical to the original: images with few colours are stored as a palette, and an alpha channel that isn't used is dropped.

Crop, rotate and flip
Drag a crop box or type exact pixel values, and lock it to 1:1, 4:3, 3:2, 16:9 or 9:16 for profile pictures, thumbnails and stories. Rotate in 90° steps, flip either way, and give any image its own scale.

Questions
Asked often
Does converting HEIC to JPG lose quality?
JPG is a lossy format, so there is a small change, but at the default quality of 90 it is very hard to see. Raise the quality slider for a closer copy, or choose PNG for a lossless result.
Can I convert many HEIC photos at once?
Yes. Drop as many as you like, convert them all with one button and save them together.
Is it safe to convert private photos here?
Yes. The photos never leave your device; the conversion runs in your browser.
Why does my iPhone save photos as HEIC?
HEIC stores the same picture in about half the space of a JPG, so your phone fits more photos. You can switch the camera to JPG in Settings → Camera → Formats → Most Compatible, but converting existing photos is quicker.
Do I need a Mac or an app to open HEIC files?
No. The converter runs in Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari on Windows, Mac, Linux and Android.
Should I convert HEIC to JPG or PNG?
JPG for sharing, email and the web, since the files are small and open everywhere. PNG only when you need a lossless copy, and expect a much larger file.
