Extract MP3 from a video: how it works
How to extract audio
Drop your video above, choose MP3, M4A or WAV, and press the button. Use Edit to keep only a section, such as one song from a long recording.
Which format
MP3 plays on everything. M4A is AAC, usually a little better at the same size, and when the video already has AAC sound it is copied across without any loss. WAV is uncompressed, big but exact, for editing.
Everything stays with you
The sound is taken out in your browser. The video is never uploaded, which matters for recordings you would rather keep private.
MP3, M4A or WAV
Each format suits a different job. MP3 at 192 kbps is about 1.4 MB a minute and plays on anything, so it is the safe pick for sharing and podcasts. M4A is AAC: slightly better sound at the same size, and when the video already holds AAC audio it is copied across with no loss. WAV is uncompressed, roughly 10 MB a minute, which is right for editing in an audio program and wasteful for listening.
If the video came from a phone or a camera, the sound is most often AAC already, so M4A is both the fastest and the cleanest option.

What leaves your device
No video is uploaded. Everything runs in your browser; a small converter (about 3 MB) is downloaded once, and only for a format the browser cannot read. What is recorded.

Questions
Asked often
Is the audio sent anywhere?
No. The sound is taken out in your browser and saved on your device.
Does it lose quality?
M4A from a video with AAC sound is a straight copy. MP3 is encoded at 192 kbps, which is fine for most listening.
Can I extract only part of the audio?
Yes. Use Edit to trim before you extract.
What happens to the picture?
It is dropped. You get an audio file only, and the original video is untouched.
What if the video has no audio track?
The card says there is no audio to extract. Screen recordings made without a microphone are the usual case.
Which is best, MP3 or M4A?
M4A is slightly better at the same size, but MP3 plays on more old devices.
How big will the MP3 be?
At 192 kbps, about 1.4 MB for each minute of sound.
