Turn a GLB into a PNG: how it works

A picture of a 3D model

A product page, a README or a slide needs an image, not a 3D file. Open the model, turn and zoom it until it looks right, and press Save PNG. The picture is exactly the view on screen, on a transparent background, so it drops onto any page.

The viewer lights the model with a neutral studio light so materials read as they are meant to, and shows it in the same way each time.

Sizes

Choose 1× for the size of the view, 2× for twice that, which stays sharp on high-density screens, or 4096 for a picture 4096 pixels wide. The height follows the shape of the view. Very large sizes depend on what your graphics card can render, and a browser may refuse the biggest.

After optimizing, the snapshot is of the result, and with Original selected it is of the original, so you can make a before and after pair.

What to know

The background is transparent, and PNG keeps it. Wireframe works too: switch it on first. The picture comes from your own browser, so it can differ a little between machines. For a render with shadows and a studio backdrop, use a 3D editor; this is a quick snapshot, not a render.

Any format it opens

The same page opens GLB, glTF, OBJ, STL and PLY, so you can make a picture of a print model or of an old OBJ without converting it first.

What leaves your device

No model is uploaded. Everything runs in your browser; the compression engines and the validator are downloaded from this site the first time they are needed. What is recorded.

Questions

Asked often

Is the PNG transparent?

Yes. Everything outside the model is transparent.

How do I choose the angle?

Drag to turn the model and scroll to zoom. The picture is the view as it is when you press Save PNG.

How big can the picture be?

Up to 4096 pixels wide. The largest sizes depend on your graphics card and browser.

Can I save a before and after pair?

Yes. Optimize the model, choose Original or Result in the viewer, and save a PNG of each from the same angle.

Which formats can I open?

GLB, glTF with its files, OBJ with MTL, STL and PLY, or a zip of one.

Is my model uploaded?

No. The picture is drawn and saved in your browser.
