Make a GLB smaller: how it works
Where the weight is
A heavy model is usually weight in two places: textures and geometry. Textures are often the larger part, and a 4096 pixel image takes four times the memory of a 2048 pixel one. Geometry is bigger than it needs to be when the same vertex is stored for every triangle, when copies of the same mesh or material pile up, and when everything is stored at full 32-bit precision.
Optimize works on both, in this order: textures first, then merging and clean-up, then geometry compression.
What Optimize does
Identical vertices, meshes, materials and textures are merged. Unused nodes, materials and data are removed. Missing normals are calculated. Animation keyframes that add nothing are dropped. The geometry is then compressed with Meshopt or Draco.
Textures can be capped at 4096, 2048, 1024 or 512 pixels, rounded to a power of two, or saved as WebP where your browser can write it.
Meshopt or Draco
Draco usually gives the smallest geometry but takes longer to decode, and the page showing the model must load a Draco decoder. Meshopt is a little larger, decodes quickly and its decoder is smaller; three.js, Babylon.js and drei all support it. Meshopt is selected for you.
Both compress by storing positions and normals with fewer bits, which is not visible at normal sizes. Drag the divider in the viewer to compare the original with the result from the same angle.
Checked, then saved
The result is read back and inspected the same way as any file you drop, and checked against the glTF 2.0 spec with the Khronos validator. The card shows the size before and after, and whether the result is valid. Compression is not lossless, so keep your original.

What leaves your device
No model is uploaded. Everything runs in your browser; the compression engines and the validator are downloaded from this site the first time they are needed. What is recorded.

Questions
Asked often
How much smaller will my model get?
It depends on the model. Geometry compresses to a fraction of its size, but if textures are most of the file, resizing them matters more. The result card shows the exact size before and after.
Should I choose Meshopt or Draco?
Meshopt unless the size matters most and your viewer has a Draco decoder. It decodes faster and needs less setup.
Will the model look different?
Merging, removing unused data and adding normals do not change it. Compression and smaller textures lower precision and resolution slightly; the viewer can show both side by side, or wipe between them.
Are animations kept?
Yes. Skins, morph targets and animations are kept, and redundant keyframes are removed.
Is the result a valid GLB?
It is checked with the Khronos glTF validator, and the card says Valid glTF or lists the errors.
Is my model uploaded?
No. Everything runs in your browser. The compression engines are downloaded from this site the first time you use them.
