Rotate a video: how it works
How to rotate
Drop your video. The editor opens on it: press the rotate buttons to turn it a quarter turn at a time, and flip it if it is mirrored. The picture shows the result before you save. Apply, then press the button to save the rotated copy.
Why videos end up sideways
Some players and editors ignore the rotation flag a phone writes into the file, so a vertical video shows on its side. Turning it here writes the picture the right way up, so it looks right everywhere.
Crop and trim too
The same window crops to a size or ratio such as 9:16 and trims the start and end. Rotating re-encodes the video at high quality, so a longer video takes a little while.
Quarter turns for phone footage
Phones record the picture in one fixed orientation and write a rotation flag for how it was held. Players that read the flag show it upright; players that ignore it, some web uploads and some editors, show it on its side. The video made here is saved so it plays upright.
Use the 90° buttons for sideways footage, twice for an upside-down clip, and the flip buttons for a mirrored selfie. Footage shot sideways but meant to be vertical can be rotated and then cropped to 9:16 in the same window.

What leaves your device
No video is uploaded. Everything runs in your browser; a small converter (about 3 MB) is downloaded once, and only for a format the browser cannot read. What is recorded.

Questions
Asked often
Is the clip sent anywhere?
No. It is rotated in your browser and saved on your device.
How do I turn a video upside down?
Press the rotate button twice for 180°.
Can I flip a video?
Yes. Flip it horizontally or vertically in the same window.
Does rotating reduce quality?
The video is re-encoded at high quality, so any change is very small.
Does Fix for iPhone rotate videos?
No. iPhones read the rotation flag correctly, so Fix for iPhone leaves it alone. Rotate here only when the picture itself needs turning.
Why does my video look right on my phone but not elsewhere?
The phone stores a rotation flag that some players ignore. Rotating here makes the picture itself upright.
