Remove hidden geometry: how it works
Why models carry things nobody sees
A car from a CAD export has seats, an engine and a dashboard. A scan has the inside of its walls. A product model keeps the screws behind the cover. They are all drawn on every frame, even though no viewer outside the model will ever see them, and on a phone that is triangles and draw calls spent for nothing.
Removing them lowers the triangle count without changing how the model looks from outside, which makes it a better first step than reducing polygons, which does change the shape.
How it finds them
The model is drawn from 72 directions all around it, in a picture where every triangle has its own colour. A triangle that shows up in none of the pictures cannot be seen from outside, and is hidden. Glass and other see-through parts are never touched, because what is behind them is visible, and neither are skinned or morphing parts.
There are two settings. Safe also keeps the neighbours of every visible triangle, so a thin sliver the pictures missed is not lost. Max does not, and removes more.
Look before you remove
Show hidden paints the triangles that would go in red on the original, so you can check that nothing important is among them. When it looks right, run Optimize: the hidden triangles are removed from the vertex data, so the file gets smaller too, and the triangle waterfall on the result card shows how many went.
What it cannot know
It sees what the sampled directions see. A model you will look at from the inside, or through a window you cut later, will be missing things. Removing an underside or the back of a part makes holes if the model is ever turned to show them. Keep your original.

What leaves your device
No model is uploaded. Everything runs in your browser; the compression engines and the validator are downloaded from this site the first time they are needed. What is recorded.

Questions
Asked often
Will the model look different?
From outside it should not. Compare the original and the result with Wipe or Side by side, and with the deviation view, which shows removed geometry as far from the original.
What is the difference between Safe and Max?
Safe keeps every triangle that touches a visible one. Max removes everything the pictures did not see, which is more, and can leave small gaps.
Does it remove glass or transparent parts?
No. See-through materials are never removed, because what is behind them can be seen.
Does it work on animated or skinned models?
Parts with skins or morph targets are left alone, because they move into places the pictures did not see.
How is this different from reducing polygons?
Reducing polygons changes the shape everywhere. This removes only what cannot be seen, so the visible surface is untouched.
Is my model uploaded?
No. The pictures are drawn on your own graphics card, in your browser.
